Breast Cancer Awareness

Philadelphia, PA, Monday, October 19th 2009 - In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Pita Pit, located at 16th and Sansom, will donate one dollar of every pita purchased, both in-store and delivery, to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation. The Susan G. Komen Foundation has worked tirelessly since its inception in 1982, to raise awareness, support, and over one billion dollars in funding to help combat and cure breast cancer. Breast cancer is widespread and has touched nearly everyone's lives, either directly or indirectly. Pita Pit invites you to help make the world a brighter, more hopeful place for all the mothers, daughters, sisters and friends who have been diagnosed. Together with the Susan G. Komen Foundation, we can help to make sure every woman diagnosed with breast cancer can someday call herself a survivor.

The Pita Pit has always been committed to the health and well-being of its customers. The shop's slogan, 'fresh thinking, healthy eating', is evident in every corner and practice of the store. The Pita Pit uses fresh, locally grown vegetables when available, offers many vegetarian options, and, last year, became the first Green Certified Restaurant™ in Philadelphia. A healthy meal, a clean environment, and happy pita eaters are their missions.

Product Testing

A few weeks ago we put a poll on our blog that asked if our customers would like to see a vegetarian buffalo chicken added to the menu at Pita Pit. The results were overwhelmingly in favor for the addition so we decided to introduce it.

We want to make sure that the product is up to Pita Pit standards and we are asking our loyal customers for their candid opinions.

On October 6th, from 2pm-6pm, we will be hosting our first ever product testing debut. The veggie Pitas will be 100% free and all we ask is that you preregister and fill out a survey after eating. If you're interested, you can preregister here.

Breaking News

We just found out we were nominated again for MyFoxPhilly Hotlist again! Last year, we took the prize without a problem. We would love to take it for a second year in a row. Vote here and please help us out!

Breakfast

At the Pita Pit, we feel as though Philadelphians aren't eating a proper breakfast. As we watch the long lines pile up at Dunkin Donuts in the morning, we can only imagine what people are putting into their bodies.

It's time to change some habits everyone! We understand their coffee is great, (we drink it all of the time) but starting your day off with donuts and sticky buns is gross. Here is your opportunity to try something new. If you like our standard pitas you WILL LOVE our breakfast pitas. Each one is made with REAL eggs, not the mystery goop that comes out of cartons or the interesting frozen yellow disks.

We won't even talk about the grease carts... but really... come on...

Our favorite, and most popular breakfast pita is the Chicken Classic, it's made with chicken, scrambled eggs, cheese, grilled onions, mushrooms, and peppers and a hash-brown to top it off. It's absolutely delicious and we highly recommend it. Print this coupon out today and stop in. We're quick, but if you do happen to be late for work, we'll write a note to your boss.

Free Salad

From now until labor day, get a free large garden salad with any catering order when you mention this special. If you haven't tried one of our huge catering salads now is the perfect opportunity to do so. All our salads are made fresh using all of our vegetables and we can customize them to whatever your preference may be. Remember, after you order your catering from us, be sure to give us a ring and have us pick up your trays. By doing so, you will not only help our planet, but you will earn yourself a $5.00 gift card!

Everyone meet Jefferey, Jeffery meet everyone

If you come into Pita Pit today, you will notice a new fresh look. It's the beginning of the month and that means we are proud to present our next artist of the month Jeffery Kubach. Read his bio here.

Wow

We would just like to take this opportunity and thank all of the people that showed up on Wednesday. If you were there, you probably took notice to the amazing turnout that we had. What an amazing day.

We're almost 3 years old!

On Wednesday, July 29th, we will be celebrating our third anniversary in the big city. If you haven't heard, all pitas in store will be only $3.00. Come celebrate our birthday and help us kick off our 3rd year of business. With your help, it will be the best year to date. (Press Release)

To be honest, we never thought we would last this long. We started out with a ridiculous rent and too few patrons to make long term success seem feasible. The only thing that kept our heads in the game was seeing the customers that would come in multiple times daily. We knew our product was great, we eat it every day, but we didn't know how to convince others. We turned to the only thing we knew how to do - make excellent food. We decided a year ago to really step it up. Make sure that every single person coming into the store leaves not only content, but raving about our food. After all, we are an inexpensive, healthy, quick, vegetarian friendly, but most importantly, delicious restaurant. Surely that has to spark interest with a few folks.

Slowly but steadily our core customer base started to grow and grow with our patrons being the best source of marketing possible. Now, in July of 2009, we are finally a staple in this great city, and are no longer worried about making rent. We're here to stay, and here to deliver an excellent product and service to the best of Philadelphia.

We hope to see you on Wednesday, thank you.

Customer Appreciation Day, Tuesday July 14th

At our State College store, we first introduced our Customer Appreciation Day in February of 2007 and it worked out so well that we decided to do it monthly.

We started following suit here in Philly last December and launched our monthly Customer Appreciation Day campaign. So far, it has been getting more and more popular and we can't wait to see what kind of a turnout our July CAD will bring.

Remember, our Customer Appreciation Day is the 2nd Tuesday of every month and currently the special is a half priced pita with any drink purchase.

Here is the coupon below. You can simply snap a picture with your phone (the environmentally friendly way) or just click it and print it out. (the non environmentally friendly way) Please note that half priced pitas are only for in store purchases or takeout orders placed over phillypitapit.com.

New Products

Shame on us, but we haven't introduced a new product since our veggie steak last year. It's not like we haven't been thinking. Every time we consider new products, a grand debate ensues, and we are left with nothing but exhausted brains.

With that in mind, we have come to the conclusion that the best way to alleviate tensions and internal arguments is to have our customers choose the products they want to see. For the next 20 days leading up to our 3rd anniversary on July 29th we will be taking votes on what we should introduce into the Pita Pit. Whether the new product is for a limited time, a new standard, or just something for fun, our goal is to tally votes until our anniversary.

On Wednesday, July 29th, we have agreed to sell all pitas for $3.00. We're pretty confident that the place will be a mob scene so please try and keep our special privy to only loyal Pita Pit customers.

MJ

Today Pita Pit celebrates the life of Michael Jackson. As all you card-carrying fan club members know, Mexican was the King of Pop's favorite food. To pay our respects properly, we're offering an MJ inspired $5.00 Thriller Fajita, a steak or chicken fajita pita!

MJ

In honor of the late great one, we will also be changing the name of our Banana Very Berry Smoothie to the Smooth Criminal for the entire day. For those that don't know, the Smooth Criminal will have strawberries, bananas, frozen yogurt, orange juice and a little HEE hee.

mjpandoraTo further transform the Pit into an MJ shrine, we'll be showing the TV special all day, beginning at 11am while blaring our Michael Jackson radio on Pandora. station. Listen with us... Ma ma se ma ma sa ma ma coo sa!

Going Green

Last year we joined the Green Restaurant Association and became the first Certified Green Restaurant in Philadelphia. Now we are in our second year with the GRA, and we're in the process of deciding which environmental steps we're going to take this year to improve the sustainability of our store.

In brief, some of our sustainable accomplishments of the past year consist of energy reduction, water reduction, air quality improvements, and the recycling and upcycling of waste products. We also switched to biodegradable eco-friendly cups, plates and cutlery.

Check out some of the coverage we received from Philly Biz Journal, Fast Casual Magazine and CBS.

For this year, we have already started our Recycle and Save program and are anxiously awaiting new ideas to incorporate into the Pita Pit. Hopefully, by the end of the year, we will have some sort of composting process incorporated into the store. If you have been to the store and there is something that you would like to see, please let us know.

After joining the association, we thought that many other restaurants would follow suit, however, to our astonishment, no other restaurants have joined. In NY and Cali, hundreds of restaurants are actively involved with the association and are committed to incorporating sustainable practices into their restaurants. For some reason, Philly is behind the eight ball. Mayor Nutter's Green Works Philadelphia is pushing Philly to become the "greenest city in America" and with restaurants being a huge attraction here, there should be some correlation. By know means are we calling for some government mandate, however, we're sure customers want to see their favorite restaurants be more sustainable. Most of the changes that we made throughout the store were easy, inexpensive, and smart. We don't think that our steps at the Pita Pit will create a huge impact themselves, but collectively, we can make real progress in the city. The negatives of going green in the restaurant industry have yet to be seen.

Local artist showcase

A couple of months ago we started displaying artwork created by local artists in Philadelphia. I don't think we could have predicted how excellent the response has bin with our customers. The talent rotating through the Pita Pit is far beyond anything that we could have originally imagined and we are looking forward to continuing the program forever.

We are now on our third artist. We started out with Matthew Clifford who focused on abstract computer generated paintings. These were gigantic pieces that really lit up the Pita Pit. Check out his page here.

After Matthew's paintings came down, we were excited to introduce a very talented Philadelphia photographer and avid pita eater Nema Etebar. His work portrays Philadelphia in the most true to life form by telling a story with every candid shot. It was sad to see his work come down, however, we know that Nema will have no problem displaying his photography in the future. Many of his shots can still be seen at Alfa or on his website.

Just yesterday, we started our 3rd artist Emily Erb. Emily is a very talented artist who has won countless awards and we are very excited to see her pieces being displayed. Check out her webpage and come down to the The Pita Pit to see her favorite paintings before they come down in August.

As of right now, we have about 8 more artists lined up to display their work but if you are interested in jumping in line, please let us know and we would be more than happy to take a look.

Our first post...

As we approach our 3rd year of business, we thought it would be a good idea to start getting all of our thoughts, news and ideas onto one concise platform so we can share with our customers and whoever else wants to read.

Some of these posts will be from past events that we wanted to archive, but for the most part, this blog will deliver the most up to date information about what we are doing in the store and in the community. Enjoy!
